I love coconuts…..so I could not resist the Sangkaya coconut ice cream when we passed the outlet at Jaya One , just outside of Salt ‘n Koffie Gallery Cafe.
There was a choice of cone, cup or signature ice cream. We ordered the Signature which comes with 4 scoops of coconut ice cream with a choice of 3 toppings , served in coconut shell which is lined with coconut meat at the bottom. That alone reads yummy ….wait for the verdict of the taste !
Does 4 scoops sounds like BIG ? Well, they were small scoops probably around 3 cm diameter. As every coconut is different, it depends on your luck if the meat is soft or hard. We chose coconut flakes, corn and cornflakes as our choice toppings. And the end product was this:
I heard that at some outlets they let you put on the topping yourself – I would have liked that ! Anyway lets dig in !
Oh my…….the ice cream is just so good and refreshing ! It’s not overly creamy but is light and taste like natural coconut instead of coconut essence. Its not overly sweet but its relatives to ones taste buds. I am still ok with it, my daughter liked it cos it was “not so sweet” in her opinion – I would not have minded it less sweet. It seems to go well with all the toppings . My favorite topping is still the roasted coconut flakes which I feel enhances the flavor best. 3 of us actually shared the ice cream as we just had lunch but when we finished , we wanted more ……………….
Service was friendly, manned by a young man and a helper.Apparently the coconut ice cream are made fresh everyday. They also serve Cha Yen (Thai Milk tea) ice cream but it was out of stock and also fresh coconut water.
